Imagination Library of Daviess County
Imagination Library strives to improve literacy by delivering age-appropriate books at no charge to local children under the age of five. A parent or guardian simply needs to register the child to begin receiving free books through the mail every month until the child’s fifth birthday. The program is completely volunteer driven (no paid staff or office space) and relies solely on generous community donations and volunteer services. A Community Advisory Panel promotes the program, develops fundraising initiatives, registers children, and enters information into the database. From there, the Dollywood Foundation manages the system to deliver via USPS the books to the children. www.ImaginationLibrary.com and “like” our Community Spelling Bee fundraiser page on FaceBook. |

Mission Statement MentorKids KY exits to love children, ages six through fourteen, from single parent/non-traditional households living in Daviess County. 1. What type of volunteer do you need?
We currently are in desperate need of Mentors. Both Male and Female, but more so for males. We are always looking for additional children to enroll in our program that fall between the ages of 6-14. High School Honor Society students are very helpful during our Thursdays night STAR program. 2. Hours and days you need volunteers? How much time does a volunteer need to commit? Mentors can easily work their mentoring hours around their own schedules. Just 1 hour each week is required for a minimum of 1 year. STAR Program volunteers are needed from 4-6pm every Thursday night school is in session. 3. Are there requirements for the volunteer? To mentor you need background check, references, training, photo ID, and proof of car insurance. To volunteer with our STAR Program, NO. Because the volunteer will never be alone with a child, background checks are not necessary. The staff is responsible for the children, as well as the volunteers. 4. Describe the different type of volunteer opportunities your organization would offer. Aside from Mentoring, other volunteer opportunities may include, but are not limited to: Helping plan an event, setting up, registering guests, serving, and cleaning up. 5. How will you communicate to the volunteer? (call, email, text) Contact will be made however the volunteer wishes. 6. Any other information you feel Volunteer Owensboro needs to know. We just want to stress that all that is required of a mentor is 1 hour per week per child. STAR night, which is a good place to get acquainted with our program initially, allows volunteers the opportunity to spend time with all our kids that attend, including those not matched. |
